The National Library for the Environment is an online resource of environmental information located at the CNIE homepage: http://www.cnie.org The library contains reports, databases, educational resources, daily environmental and Congressional news, conference information, career listings and counseling, and the most comprehensive database of continually updated Congressional Research Service reports publicly available. Each section is described below. Congressional Research Service Reports Over 300 nonpartisan environmental reports produced by the Library of Congress' Congressional Research Service exclusively for Members of Congress and their staffs. nonpartisanship and many are updated monthly.
Introductory articles on how human population impacts upon aspects of the environment can be found on the lower pane of the population/environment database home page. Educational Programs and Resources / DHEEP: (Directory of Higher Education Environmental Programs) Environmental Education Programs and Resources is implemented in collaboration with Rice University and includes resources developed by the CNIE and others. The Directory of Higher Education Programs, developed by CNIE & Rice University, includes over 150 degree-granting, environmental programs -- many of which train K-12 teachers. The resources provided on Advanced Technology Environmental Education Center (ATEEC) in Iowa address environmental technology education through curriculum development, professional development and the nation's community college and high school environmental technology programs. Complementing the program-focused resources is Second Nature's Starfish, with over 200 syllabi and reading lists for sustainability courses, 1600 bibliographic references for sustainability and 21 innovative teaching techniques. Environmental News Updated Daily: Daily news from the Environmental News Network, Earth Vision and biweekly Congressional updates from EESI. ENN daily news is a comprehensive effort between staff scientists, editors and journalists and a multitude of news wire services, the research university community and relevant government agencies. Earth Vision is a partnership based "environmental campus" that publishes environmental news on a daily basis. Topics covered include Business & Technology, Sustainability, Education, Policy Advocacy, & Recreation. The EESI Environment and Energy Update contains comprehensive information on upcoming and recent Congressional action on environmental, energy and natural resources issues. Climate Change Briefing Book: compiled by the Library of Congress' Congressional Research Service. The first stop for objective and nonpartisan climate change information, continually updated. Included are:
Careers and Opportunities includes: Environmental Positions, Counseling, Corporate Research, Job Market Analysis, Salary Determination, Job Databases, E-Mail Headhunters, Resume Preparation, Resume Posting, Cover letters, Interviewing, Education, and links to other career site mega lists. One-stop shopping for environmental positions. Meetings and Conferences is a bulletin board for events of interest
to the environmental science and policy communities.
