EnvironMentors is a national, environment-based college access program that prepares high school students from underrepresented backgrounds for college degree programs and careers in environmental and related scientific fields. We mentor and motivate student participants as they conduct scientific research and acquire skills that will allow them to build careers and become more active stewards of their communities and the environment.



Most of our students cannot pursue their career aspirations and make the transition to college on their own. They need financial support to keep them on the path toward higher education and they rely on loans, grants, and scholarships to finance their college educations. By participating in the EnvironMentors Scholarship Program, you can enable students to make the important transition to college. Scholarships are critical for our students for a variety of reasons:

• Scholarships help offset ever increasing costs of attending college.
• Students who win a scholarship can include the award on their college applications, making them even more attractive candidates for acceptance to their top-choice colleges.
• Encourage students to pursue an environmental degree.

Since 1992, the DC EnvironMentors Chapter alone has supported over two thousand high school students in attaining important inquiry-based scientific research skills and creative and critical thinking experience, becoming more aware    of the natural world around them, and growing in self confidence and awareness.
 


98% of our students have graduated from high school, as compared to the average DC graduation rate of 60%, and 95% of our students have gone on to college, as compared to the DC college matriculation rate of 17.5%. 



EnvironMentors is committed to providing students with a well-rounded environmental education that encourages youth to pursue an environmental profession. We understand that a high quality environmental education is the foundation for creating a new Green Economy. Today's urgent need to address global environmental problems and a depressed economy has spurred the notion that we can fight environmental problems while establishing committed environmental professionals and generating gainful employment.
