DC Chapter

The DC EnvironMentors science Fair is coming up on May 9, 2012 from 12:30-3:00pm at Wilson Senior High School (3950 Chesapeake St. NW), and WE NEED YOU AS A JUDGE!
If you are interested in being a judge, please fill out the Judges Registration Form.
Initiated in Washington, DC in 1992, EnvironMentors has matched over 1,000 DC public high school students with environmental professionals. 96% of students that have had a DC EnvironMentors experience in high school graduate, and 92% of them are accepted to college. Fitting into the National Council for Science and the Environment's educational strategic overview, EnvironMentors supports students in college readiness and career preparation in environmental and natural resources fields.
Our students hail from five Washington, DC public high schools: Thrugood Marshall Academy Public Charter HS, School Without Walls SHS, Wilson SHS, H.D. Woodson HS and Cardoza SHS. These students come from all over Washington, DC, from every ethnic, racial, and socio-economic background. This allows us to have a rich and diverse student body to explore the natural wonders of the District of Columbia.
Thurgood Marshall Academy Public Charter High School (TMA)
Located across the river in Anacastia, TMA is a law-based charter school. This is our third year working with TMA and we will be partnering with their Green Club. EnvironMentors will help the students re-enforce the Law theme of their high school and will add an experiemental component to their Schoolyard Greening Project.
School Without Walls (SWW)
EnvironMentors once again partnered with SWW, whose uniqu
e academic program prompts students to use the city as a classroom. SWW affords students with opportunities to integrate classroom theory, along with the rich resources that the Washington metropolitan area has to offer. EnvironMentors is based out of their Eart Science classes where students integrate their classroom studies into their projects.
Wilson Senior High School
Situated in Northwest DC, currently relocated onto the University of the District of Columbia cam
pus, Wilson SHS has opened its door to EnvironMentors. Our Wilson students are on the Environmental Track that the new science chair has started. This allows EnvironMentors students to reinforce their
studies in previous environmental science courses.
Cardoza Senior High School
Located in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Northwest DC, Cardoza is a predominently African American and Latino high school. EnvironMentors has re-established its connection with Cardoza to supplement a canceled environmental science program. DC EnvironMentors has been a key support to Cardozo's science department, working with four biology classes throughout the year.
H.D. Woodson High School
The newest addition to the EnvironMentors program, H.D. Woodson is located in Southeast DC and serves a predominantly African American student population. Woodson is currently in the process of restructuring their school in response to low standarized test results, and EnvironMentality is an integral tool being used to raise science scores.
