Teacher Professional Development
The Link to Success (and Change) in Education: Transforming Professional Development with Teachers

Chair: Chris Chopyak-Minor, Earth Force

This session will begin with a panel that will introduce examples of how educators, business and others collaborate in their communities to create the platform for using the environment and sustainability education as an effective tool to increase student test scores, involve members of the community and where schools become a place for students to understand the implications of the decisions and actions they make today on their future. Inspired by these panelists and informed by a brief overview of the research related to successful strategies for working with teachers, the session will open up for discussion and deliberation about the "Secrets" to supporting educators through professional development, ideas about how to gain support within schools, districts and states, the resources available and critical for success and the way to maintain a vibrant and growing professional development system within one’s community.

Panelists:

Brooke Carson, The Keystone Center
Phyllis Buchanan, DuPont
Vince Meldrum, Earth Force
Chris Bates, General Motors
